Blending Out Previous Grow Out Lines

When your client sits down with harsh grow out lines and uneven existing color and they show you this incredible pinterest photo of perfectly blended hair, what do you do?

BREAK IT DOWN

Ask yourself the following:

1. How was this hair previously done? Balayage? Fine or chunky weave? All over lightening? Box color?

2. Have you determine the underlying pigment of the natural hair?

3. How can you best execute this to get the desired result, keep the hair healthy and keep it from being an insanely long appointment?

WHAT I DID AND WHAT I USED

1. I started by applying a root color. I do this because it evens out my base, covers grey and acts as a buffer for my lightener so that I don't have harsh lines.

- Redken Color Gels: 5nw, 6n and clear with 10 volume

2. I then proceeded to Foilayage in the light pieces making sure to blend my lightener into the root shade. Between foils I took the root shade through the ends to even out the other harsh lines.

-Redken Flashlift 10 vol in the back 2 quadrants and 20 vol in the very front sections

3. Once that has been processed and been shampooed out, I went in with a root smudge and made sure that the lines were very blended out and then applied the toner through the ends.

-Root smudge: 5nw in shades eq

-Toner: 9gi, 9gb, 6gi and 7g (.50,.50, .15,.30) in shades eq
