Do Your Blondes Pull Purple?

Scary right? You feel that you formulated correctly but somehow the purple still shows up. I can help.

Tip #1

When formulating a gloss, if you are worried about things going purple, add in some crystal clear or some neutral. Crystal Clear will dilute the tone not really the level. When adding in crystal clear or neutral, don’t add in too much or else the hair won't be able to eliminate all the warmth.

Tip #2

Always give your gloss time to sit and process. The number of minutes that the gloss processes for is how many washes it will last. Always when the gloss is first applied, things may appear purplish and so we immediately rinse it because we think that if the gloss sits on for longer then the hair will be more purple. However this is not the case. The gloss needs time to settle and fully work. If you are formulating correctly, leaving the gloss on for 20 minutes will allow the hair to absorb the true tone and it will not be purple. I was scared to leave my glosses on for 20 minutes but once I started doing that, it made such a huge difference in the outcome.

Tip #3

Use a ph equalizer after shampooing and before toning or use Redken Cat treatment. Ph equalizer will help to help the sections of the hair that or may be more porous or damaged just so the gloss doesn't pull differently on those sections. Redken Cat helps treat breakage and acts as a deep conditioning treatment for the hair and should be used for 3-5 minutes. It helps the hair cuticles to be able to grasp onto the gloss better and so it lasts longer. Also using the Cat about once or twice a week after shampooing and before conditioning will help your tone to last longer and help your hair to be less prone to breakage.
