Q&A EXTENSIONS HALO COUTURE
How much do they cost?
Prices vary depending on style, length and color type. Halo has the original and layered standard halos, tape in extensions, the fall and ponytail extensions. Lengths range from 12-24 inches. Prices range from around $300-$700. Shorter lengths and more standard types are less expensive than extensions that are 24 inches long with a balayage.
How often would I have to replace the hair?
Maintenance is key! If you are maintaining your extensions with professional products and if you refrain from washing them super often then your extensions could last you years. Extensions are still prone to damage so you don't want to use too hot of heat on them and NEVER lighten them. You can color extensions but only depositing colors. Lightening them will dry them out and it can cause lots of damage. Ideally it is best to use semi permanent color on them so that is nourishes them and doesn't contain alcohol. If you lighten or don't use good moisturizing professional products on them or over heat them during styling you will probably have to replace your extensions yearly.
Do I have to get them moved up?
With the Halo type of extensions they are not actually attached to your own hair and so you do not have to worry about moving them up. Halo's are very gentle on your hair and they do not cause any damage if you're putting them in the right way.
Will it look weird with my hair?
I was so worried about this when I got mine. I was so worried that it wouldn't blend. The key is to get a halo that will go best with what you hair. If you have really short hair, you wouldn't want to get extremely long extensions because no matter the type, your natural hair would stick out like a sore thumb and it would be obvious that you have extensions. The key is to add extensions that are within 6 inches in length as your natural hair and to get a layered style. Layered halos will help blend in your hair so that way it doesn't look like you have one giant layer. You need to layer your hair so that way it creates a soft blend. No you do not have to layer your hair tons and tons. You want to layer your hair softly so that if you choose not to wear the halo one day then your hair won't look bad.
How often should I wash them?
With my extensions, I wash them about every 3-4 months (mainly because I only wear mine wavy or in braids) and I only wear my halo about 2-3 times a week give or take. If you are wearing your halo daily or putting tons of heat on it or using a lot of product in it you will need to wash it more often. It doesn't need to be washed as much as your natural hair because it is not getting oily because it is not actually attached to your hair.
Do my extensions need to get trimmed?
All hair gets split ends even extensions. If you want your extensions to look the best then you will need to get the ends trimmed and doing a surface trim makes the biggest difference because it allows you to keep the length but it helps trim the split ends throughout your hair not just at the bottom. Just because you have extensions doesn't mean that you shouldn't get a haircut either. Most people that have extensions get them because they want their hair to grow out because they want longer hair. You still need to trim and surface trim your own hair.
What heat setting should I use on my extensions?
Extensions hold a heat style much better than typically your own hair. No hair and certainly not the extensions should be used on 450 degrees. That is way way to hot. Extensions should be used on low to medium heat settings if there is no degree adjustment. If there is a degree adjustment then try around 330 degrees and move up if you feel needed. Typically with my own extensions I use around 365 degrees. Always make sure you use a heat protectant on your extensions before every heat application and prior to blow drying. I love using the redken one united leave in spray prior to blow drying to ensure the hair is protected while blow drying and redken iron shape heat protectant before heat tool styling or before spending long periods of time in the sun. Iron shape has a medium hold to it so you don't have to necessarily use a hairspray afterwards if you don't want to.
